Macmillan Chiswick

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on people living with cancer has been significant.  Many people living with cancer spent months shielding because of concerns that their diagnosis put them more at risk of becoming acutely unwell if they got COVID-19. Many other experienced disruption to their cancer care and treatment.  There is also a backlog in cancer care with “missing diagnoses” and appointments, surgeries and treatments postponed, cancelled or changed.

At Macmillan Chiswick it is very important for us to fund local services to West London as just in the Borough of Hounslow alone there are nearly 6,000 people living with cancer and we are very excited to getting back to face to face fundraising so that we can raise as much money as we can to continue to support Macmillan at this pivotal time.

Welcome

This is the website for the Macmillan Cancer Support Chiswick Committee known as Macmillan Chiswick.

Macmillan provide physical, emotional and financial support to help you live life with cancer as fully as you can

Macmillan Chiswick fundraise for local Macmillan services within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS trusts.  This involves five hospitals – Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and The Western Eye.

We are now funding a senior management post in the cancer physiotherapy and occupational therapy team in Imperial Healthcare Trust. This team aims to see patients at all stages of their cancer pathway. They support patients whose cancer is treatable but not curable with the aim of maximising their quality of life and manage any side effects from their treatment.

It is important to us to fund local services to West London as just in the Borough of Hounslow alonge there are nearly 6,000 people living with cancer.

Monday 25th October at 7pm in aid of Macmillan

at St. Michaels and All Angels Church Hall Bath Road, W4 1LW

When there is an exhibition of either Vincent Van Gogh or Paul Gauguin’s work anywhere in the world, people flock to see it.

Is it all about colour, exotic subjects and the palpable texture of paint or are we all fascinated by their turbulent, complicated lives?

This lecture will explore their worlds and their art, as well as the relationship between them in the stunning town of Arles in Southern France before Van Gogh’s untimely death and Gauguin’s flight to Tahiti.

Jacqueline Cockburn, a renowned art lecturer, is kindly donating her time.

Please look at her website www.artandculturetravel.com/art-home

A suggested donation of £25 per person to include drinks and canapes served between 7 and 7.30pm

Tickets are limited to 60 people.

Please send your donations to our fundraising page (including your name so we can allocate the tickets) https://macmillan-org.enthuse.com/chiswick/profile

Hoping you might join us for this interesting evening and help us raise much needed funds for local Macmillan services.

Chiswick Macmillan Needs You!

We are actively looking for new committee members, perhaps you have a little spare time and would like to be involved in such a good cause. We would welcome many skills so if you are a good organiser, or have creative skills or are good at cooking we would love to hear from you. Many of our events involve food.  The committee members get together and decide what is to be cooked or prepared and the individual members go and buy and make their agreed contribution.  You don’t have to be a great cook, we always play to our strengths!

Some events require a sub committee to organise the event beforehand.  Usually one committee member is in overall charge of the event.  New members are not expected to take on this responsibility until they feel ready to do so.

One of the key roles of a committee member is to have fun!  We are a very happy and committed committee.  We look forward to welcoming some new members onto the team.

Please email liz.rigden@gmail.com or vivienne@pringle.co.uk if you would like some more information.
